Meet Pastor Charles
As the new pastor here at Pride RV Resort, I would like to introduce myself and give you a bit of my background. I am a native of Buncombe County, born September 10, 1965 in Asheville, NC.
In 1976, I was saved at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church located in the Enka community. My first experience in serving came when I was ordained and served as a deacon at Freedom Baptist Church in Asheville. However, God was tugging at my heart and I announced my calling to preach in February, 1997. Following that calling, I enrolled in Liberty Bible Institute, graduating in 1999. I continued my education at Liberty Bible Institute from 2000-2002, completing continuing education classes in Christian Counseling, Eschatology, Homiletics and Hermeneutics. During this time, I served as a Chaplain in prison ministries. I was licensed into the ministry in March, 1998, and was ordained in June, 2000, when I started pastoring my first church, South Buncombe Baptist, in Skyland, NC. I have also served as supply pastor for Freedom Baptist Church and Malvern Hills Baptist
Church in Asheville, and also for Beulah Baptist Church in Leicester, NC. In 2006, I was called to pastor White Oak Baptist Church in Waynesville, NC. My other areas of ministry have included being Deacon Board Vice Chairman, Outreach Ministry Director, serving on pulpit committees, Sunday school teacher, nursing home ministry and youth ministry.
Being raised in the Enka-Candler community, I am a 1984 graduate of Enka High School. I was awarded Eagle Scout in 1983, served as Assistant Scout Master, and ultimately was involved in scouting for 10 years. A volunteer firefighter from the age of 16, I furthered my studies through A-B Tech and became a licensed Emergency Medical Technician through the State of North Carolina. My service as a volunteer firefighter spanned 20 years. In 1988, I married my wife, Latricia, and started work as a Correctional Officer for the North Carolina Department of Corrections. In 1996 our daughter and only child, Brynn Kayla, was born, and in November, 2009, I retired from the Department of Corrections. Some of my hobbies include being an amateur radio operator, flyfishing, camping, hiking, lifeguarding for the Boy Scouts of America, some woodworking, and being a member of the North Buncombe Band Boosters.
Finally, I am enjoying being a part of Pride RV Resort and serving as pastor. I have made and am continuing to make great friends who are a lot of fun no matter what their age.
